An Introduction Into Ceramics-

Ceramics are organically found non-metallic materials. They are strong and smooth in texture, hence making them breakable. Most commonly used for making ceramic tableware, floor or wall tiles, sinks, pottery, and figurines. You need to heat clay at an extreme temperature for it to harden. Ceramic pieces are less in density, thus making them absorb a lot of water, which is perfect for indoor settings, and low-traffic areas. You can mold them into various shapes and sizes, use a variety of clay, colors, textures, designs, etc done before fired in the oven. Most ceramics can handle temperatures up to 3,000 degrees F.

Ceramics are used for the longest time throughout our history. Pottery is one of the oldest and ancient methods for cooking and serving food. A few ancient artefacts in China, Japan, and Egypt, found food and liquids stored in ceramic containers. The earliest discovery of ancient pottery dates back to 18,000 BCE in the Jiangxi province, China. This makes it the oldest ceramic art ever found.

Few Advantages Of Using Ceramic Tableware?

  1. ORGANIC & SAFE-
The main advantage of ceramics is- organic in origin. Hence, meals cooked as well as served are in a natural material. As a result, a majority of people have shifted to it.
  2. HEAT RESISTANT-
Ceramics can be heated without breaking or melting, unlike plastics. They are non-porous, thus don’t absorb chemicals from utensils and serving dishes.
  3. CHEMICALLY STABLE-
Undoubtedly harder, non-compressible, and brittle in nature compared to other metals and polymers. Stiffer than steel making it resistant to heat and corrosion. Also, less dense than other metals.
  4. ENHANCED PROPERTIES-
Being poor conductors of heat and electricity, the transfer of heat becomes very low. Also, it can hold boiling liquids and hot food for a substantially long time.
  5. EASY MAINTENANCE-
Easiest to clean as most scrubbers can be used on them. Moreover, very easy to get rid of burned food after soaking in warm water. Scrubbing them with scouring pads or washing liquid does not damage the surface nor leave a stain.
  6. STORING FOOD-
You can store food after putting a lid on it as ceramics have a low rate of water absorption and very few pores. This will help to prevent moisture evaporation, penetration, and external bacteria from entering the food.
  7. EXCELLENT FOR BAKING-
Also known as ceramic bakeware. These dishes are great for baking because it evenly distributes the heat. Ceramics prevent a particular area to get extremely hot than others, or the food from burning from the outside or base.
  8. POCKET FRIENDLY-
Low cost and eco-friendly. As the raw materials are plentiful and easily found.
  9. MULTIPLE COOKING METHODS-
You can use them for dry and wet cooking. Along with cooking, baking, roasting, slow-cooking, microwaving, reheating, braising, stewing, and baking are a few suitable uses.
  10. ATTRACTIVE-
Used for decoration on the shelf.
